Mercator Launches Destination Accommodation Exchange (DaeX)

Dubai, UAE May 4th, 2006
Mercator, the aviation industry’s leading IT solutions supplier introduces the Destination Accommodation Exchange (DaeX): a revolutionary real-time hotel booking system at the Arabian Travel Market 2006, the Middle East’s premier travel and tourism event.

DaeX represents a world-first for the hospitality industry through its capacity to review and book room availability at independent or chain properties across a destination via the Internet. Unlike current systems that require staff and time to process and confirm availability of inventory before booking can be completed, DaeX provides a direct point of access of room availability for participating hotels’ reservation networks, and additionally, a single view of available room inventory for tour operators.

“DaeX’s characteristics are similar to those of Dubai: a world first, visionary, fast moving, and efficient,” said Simon Lewis, Manager, eVentures Group. “As Dubai continues to introduce ground breaking tourism projects, the challenges for both suppliers and consumers of hotel accommodation grow. DaeX is a pioneering solution which reduces the cost and time associated with the room booking process for Dubai’s growing travel market.”

DaeX is a web service between a hotel’s property management system (PMS) and the Internet, allowing Internet booking engines or the operating system of a tour operator to instantly check and confirm allocated and free sale rooms at hotels across a destination, in this case Dubai. Designed by Mercator and developed jointly with MICROS-Fidelio, DaeX utilizes the functionality of MICROS-Fidelio’s “myFidelio.net” internet based booking system and its leading hotel PMS solutions that caters for the majority of all five star and four star hotels in Dubai.

To increase functionality and service DaeX has been combined with a unique Hotel Information Management System (HIMS) which is compliant with Open Travel Alliance standards. This web-based system standardizes property information through the use of consistent design and content formats.

DaeX is being primed for expansion outside of Dubai with some hotel chains represented in the emirate already identifying the opportunity of bringing their other worldwide properties onto the system.

In addition, because of its web-based ease of use, DaeX will be adapted for direct consumer use.

“Given that DaeX is Internet based, there are exciting opportunities to provide it on board aircraft where customers can book their room in the air and be met on the ground. This is an exciting concept still in its infancy and one which will certainly add value to the airline product of the future,” said Lewis.
